Adoption in Thailand are done by the Child Adoption Center (CAC), of the Department of Social Development and Welfare (DSDW), in Bangkok. It can however be a 2 year wait. Some parents who wish to adopt can wait up to two years for the process to be completed. There are a number of reasons for this as the government has to be certain that the child or children do not have any parents.
They might be without parents as they might be in prison or out of the country working, hence the long wait for adoptions in Thailand. Special needs children in Thailand are however given priority over normal adoptions and they tend to be much faster that a normal healthy child. It has been noted over the years that to adopt a girl took much longer than trying to adopt a boy as there are usually more boys waiting to be adopted than girls.
If you are loonking at a private adoption from an orphanage the paperwork still has to be approved by the Thai governments Department of Social Development and Welfare (DSDW), in Bangkok. Hence if you are looking to adopt a normal healthy Thai girl - its going to be a longer wait than adopting a special needs child or a Thai boy.
